the gluten dude blog
I started this blog in October of 2011. Why? I had a lot to say about living with celiac disease. And what I was mostly finding online did not align with my feelings and experiences of being gluten-free and dealing with the trials and tribulations of our fun little autoimmune disease. And while it took me a bit of time, I found my voice and an awesome community.
Over 780 blog posts and 36,000 comments later, while I may have slowed down my pace a bit, the journey continues. You can select a category or month below, use the search icon above or just browse around. Either way...enjoy and I hope it helps you in your journey.
Crohns. IBS. Acid Reflux. Hypochondria. Depression. Stress. Psychosis. The list is endless of all of the misdiagnoses that the celiac community has suffered. It’s complete and utter BS that this still goes on. The following comment was left on my “Hey celiacs…we’re trendy” blog […]
Read MoreI can say with absolute certainty that I was an awkward teenager. I tried to portray myself as cool and collected, but inside I was tangled mess of nerves and insecurity. I’m assuming many teenagers feel the same way. Now on top of that…add […]
Read MoreI know I’m supposed to talk about celiac disease and the evils of gluten. All of the so-called blogging experts say don’t talk about things outside your niche. But I’m just not there yet. I will be soon. I want to tell you all […]
Read MoreThis will most likely be the sweetest, saddest, most touching thing you’ll read all day. Chloe is 10 years old. Chloe has celiac disease. She got glutened last week and her Mom, who owns the New Grains Gluten Free Bakery, found this letter on […]
Read MoreGluten-free greetings from paradise… I may not be healing physically as much as I would like. Stomach is in shambles, blah, blah, blah. But I AM healing mentally and emotionally. And that suits me just fine. Down time is indeed my friend. Have a […]
Read MoreThis may be the most important post I will ever write so take heed and listen closely… Going on vacation is awesome. Going on vacation if you’re a celiac…is still awesome. But there is an added level of stress involved for us, knowing that […]
Read MoreLet’s just assume I went to my favorite restaurant last Saturday night. Let’s just assume I’ve been there about 100 times in the past two years. Let’s just assume I order one of two things every single time I go there, sushi or the […]
Read MoreWow…check out the following email I received yesterday. It is honest, sad and scary all wrapped into one. It is from a long-time restaurant server who spent years not taking celiac disease seriously for her customers. She is now being tested for celiac disease. […]
Read MoreWhen I was diagnosed five years ago with celiac disease, my doctor nailed it right away. I didn’t really think twice about it at the time. He’s a doctor. I was a sick patient. He did his job. But since I’ve started this blog, […]
Read MoreAs much as I (we) hate having celiac disease, I’m happy to at least have some diagnosis that explains my issues. Well…most of my issues anyway 🙂 But there are tons of people out there who do not have the benefit of a celiac […]
Read MoreQuestion: What do Dr. Suess and Dr. Drew have in common? Answer: One of them is a fictional character that has no concept of what celiac disease is…and the other one is Dr. Suess. Just when I started to give the media credit for […]
Read MoreI always rail on the media when it comes to…well…pretty much everything. But in this case, they got it right. Mostly right anyway. Above is an episode of Fox Files from a few weeks back that highlighted Jennifer Esposito’s battle with celiac disease. Here’s […]
Read MoreYou’ll get a few things from watching the following video. One…a good amount of adult language (you’ve been warned). Two…a great laugh. Three…a sense of how I’ve been the past 4 days. Yes, I got glutened. Yes, it was during my weekend in the […]
Read MoreSometimes it’s hard for a celiac to feel thankful. I get emails…every day…from fellow celiacs who I know aren’t feeling very thankful. They’re angry. They’re resentful. They just want their life back the way it was. I get it. I’ve been there. We’ve all […]

Read MoreThe general population just doesn’t understand celiac disease and what it can do to those inflicted. Not that I blame them. It doesn’t get the media coverage that other diseases get and because the disease itself is food-related, many on the outside don’t take […]

Read MoreWho I am. And who I'm not.
I AM someone who's been gluten-free since 2007 due to a diagnosis of severe celiac disease. I'm someone who can steer you in the right direction when it comes to going gluten-free. And I'm someone who will always give you the naked truth about going gluten free.
I AM NOT someone who embraces this gluten-free craziness. I didn’t find freedom, a better life or any of that other crap when I got diagnosed. With all due respect to Hunter S. Thompson, I found fear and loathing of an unknown world. But if I can share my wisdom, tell my stories and make the transition easier on you, I’ve done my job.
Send me a message
I'm all ears
