the gluten dude blog
I started this blog in October of 2011. Why? I had a lot to say about living with celiac disease. And what I was mostly finding online did not align with my feelings and experiences of being gluten-free and dealing with the trials and tribulations of our fun little autoimmune disease. And while it took me a bit of time, I found my voice and an awesome community.
Over 780 blog posts and 36,000 comments later, while I may have slowed down my pace a bit, the journey continues. You can select a category or month below, use the search icon above or just browse around. Either way...enjoy and I hope it helps you in your journey.
It’s no big secret that I hate our media. I think they have way too much control in our society and if they are not trying to sway people in one direction, they are scraping the bottom of the barrel for a buck. Even […]

Dana has extreme gluten-sensitivity and was plagued for years by intense stomach aches, joint pain and headaches. Since going gluten-free, many of her maladies have disappeared, […]
Read MoreAs each day passes, I seem to lose more and more faith in humanity. On Saturday, we had a reader who complained about some of the colorful language used on this blog and she said unless it was cleaned up and I moderated the […]
Read MoreCeliac can affect you in so many different ways. It messes with your health. It messes with your freedom. It messes with your mind. But I never considered it messing with your career. Unless of course your goal is to become a chef. That […]
Read MoreI read the books on staying healthy. I subscribe to Men’s Health. I follow the “healthy living” blogs. And they all say the same thing: Do not let yourself get too hungry. This is when eating mistakes happen (i.e. overeating, eating crap, etc.) For […]
Read MoreFriends can come and go and this blog has covered many unfortunate stories of friends bailing when you have to go gluten free. Co-workers? They’re too busy trying to climb the corporate ladder to worry about the nuances of celiac disease. But family? Man…they […]
Read MoreI miss pizza. I really miss pizza. But there are some things about the pizza I used to have pre-celiac days that I don’t miss. The grease. The calories. The feeling like crap afterwards. Well…we are entering what I hope is a new dawn […]
Read MoreWhen it comes to celiac, I can only think of one thing worse than having the disease itself. It’s being a kid and having the disease. One of the benefits of being young is supposed to be having a care-free lifestyle before you reach […]

Read MoreA month or so ago, I was in the midst of a pretty crappy stretch health-wise and went all-out to find a cause and a solution for my health woes. Truthfully, it’s been up and down since my diagnosis in 2007 and I simply […]
Read MoreI think we can all agree that having celiac disease pretty much sucks at any age. But when a child is diagnosed, it just adds an extra layer of suckness to it. And you would think that people would go out of their way […]
Read MoreMy name is Gluten Dude and I’m a beer snob. It wasn’t always this way. My dad drank Carling’s Black Label while I was growing up so that was my first exposure to beer. Although calling Black Label beer is being generous. He’d give […]
Read More“Dude…you’re an idiot. You’ve got that totally backwards! An endoscopy is a way to diagnose celiac disease; not treat it.” That may be true (both parts actually), but hear me out. If you recall from last month, I was going through a very rough […]
Read MoreOnce again, us celiacs been lumped together with other “picky eaters”. The above video was from the Kathy Lee and Hoda show a few days ago. My apologies for the crappy quality, but it’s not nearly as crappy as the quality of the show […]

Read MoreWho I am. And who I'm not.
I AM someone who's been gluten-free since 2007 due to a diagnosis of severe celiac disease. I'm someone who can steer you in the right direction when it comes to going gluten-free. And I'm someone who will always give you the naked truth about going gluten free.
I AM NOT someone who embraces this gluten-free craziness. I didn’t find freedom, a better life or any of that other crap when I got diagnosed. With all due respect to Hunter S. Thompson, I found fear and loathing of an unknown world. But if I can share my wisdom, tell my stories and make the transition easier on you, I’ve done my job.
Send me a message
I'm all ears
