“I can’t have that???”>>>”I don’t want that”

November 17, 2011 | 4 Comments

“I can’t have that??” has now been replaced in my vocabulary with “I don’t want that” and man does it feel good. I heard these phrases written by one of my fellow tweeters (@Paleo_Nosh) and it really resonated with me. It is a complete […]

In honor of today being Mrs. Gluten Dude’s birthday, I thought I’d write about the importance of spousal support for those with celiac disease. I belong to several celiac forums and help people out where I can. I cannot tell you the number of […]

What is Gluten Free?

November 8, 2011 | 5 Comments

It’s such a simple question, isn’t it? You would think that something either has gluten or it doesn’t have gluten and people with celiac disease wouldn’t need to jump through hoops every time they want to eat something…or drink something…or use a new toothpaste…or […]

No…it’s not what you think. There will be no OCS (occupy celiac street???). But with celiac disease affecting just a little less than 1% of the population, I think it’s time to give a little love and attention to our plight. We are not […]

What’s it Like to be Glutened?

November 3, 2011 | 42 Comments

In a word? UGLY. A little background first for those new to the blog. I got diagnosed about four years ago with severe celiac disease. On day 1 of my diagnosis, I went gluten-free and never looked back. Actually, that’s not true. I looked […]

One of those celiac days where keeping my chin off my chest takes herculean strength. Trying…to…stay…awake…to…complete…this…post. This type of day goes like this: Wake up, coffee and ipad, two hour nap, one hour of work, one hour nap, lunch, two hour nap, stare at […]

Update on 11/22/11: Amy’s Kitchen has graciously responded to the following post. See the comments section below the post. This is not going to be an anti-Amy’s post. Honestly, it’s not. This is really more about the FDA than anything else, but I am […]

Keeping a gluten-free kitchen in a gluten-filled world

October 26, 2011 | 15 Comments

It’s pretty easy to keep gluten out of most of the rooms in your house. The bedroom? Unless you’re doing some kinky things in there, I’d say it’s pretty safe. Bathroom? Should be good. Family room? Iffy if you’ve got kids, but not too […]

Who I am. And who I'm not.

Who I am. And who I'm not.

I AM someone who's been gluten-free since 2007 due to a diagnosis of severe celiac disease. I'm someone who can steer you in the right direction when it comes to going gluten-free. And I'm someone who will always give you the naked truth about going gluten free.

I AM NOT someone who embraces this gluten-free craziness. I didn’t find freedom, a better life or any of that other crap when I got diagnosed. With all due respect to Hunter S. Thompson, I found fear and loathing of an unknown world. But if I can share my wisdom, tell my stories and make the transition easier on you, I’ve done my job.
