102 Reasons to Stop Supporting Udi’s

May 3, 2017 | 99 Comments

Let me just clarify what this is about right away. This is not about who makes the best gluten-free bread. It’s not just about the “horror” of the holes in Udi’s bread. That’s been discussed here and here. Yeah…I know there are much worse […]

Explaining Celiac Disease to Others

April 28, 2017 | 19 Comments

So May 1 kicks off another celiac awareness month. I always get a little torn about this month. Too many in the community use it as a month to promote shitty gluten-free foods, which not only doesn’t help raise awareness, but also is not […]

A Parade that Includes People Throwing Flour? What’s a Celiac to do?

March 20, 2017 | 14 Comments

Being a celiac means considering things that others don’t have to. It doesn’t mean living in fear, but it certainly means living in a state of heightened awareness. Take this fellow celiac’s dilemma: Hey Gluten Dude, I have to admit this isn’t how I […]

When Celiac Disease Leads to Fear of Food

March 7, 2017 | 40 Comments

About 20 years ago, when I was living in New York City as a struggling (doesn’t even begin to describe it) artist, I ate a chicken salad sandwich at a nearby diner. Tasted…ok. About 5 hours later, it hit me. Boy…did it hit me. […]

The History of Celiac Disease

March 1, 2017 | 4 Comments

“We’re in the middle of a slow, simmering epidemic.” – Dr. John Garber, Massachusetts General Hospital, speaking about celiac disease. Quite the interesting article about celiac disease on CNN.com today. And no…it’s not fake news! It’s a pretty long article so I’m not going […]

December 2, 2016 | 19 Comments

Who I am. And who I'm not.

Who I am. And who I'm not.

I AM someone who's been gluten-free since 2007 due to a diagnosis of severe celiac disease. I'm someone who can steer you in the right direction when it comes to going gluten-free. And I'm someone who will always give you the naked truth about going gluten free.

I AM NOT someone who embraces this gluten-free craziness. I didn’t find freedom, a better life or any of that other crap when I got diagnosed. With all due respect to Hunter S. Thompson, I found fear and loathing of an unknown world. But if I can share my wisdom, tell my stories and make the transition easier on you, I’ve done my job.
