the gluten dude blog
I started this blog in October of 2011. Why? I had a lot to say about living with celiac disease. And what I was mostly finding online did not align with my feelings and experiences of being gluten-free and dealing with the trials and tribulations of our fun little autoimmune disease. And while it took me a bit of time, I found my voice and an awesome community.
Over 780 blog posts and 36,000 comments later, while I may have slowed down my pace a bit, the journey continues. You can select a category or month below, use the search icon above or just browse around. Either way...enjoy and I hope it helps you in your journey.
Yes…a rare late afternoon blog post. Two cups of coffee and an espresso and I’m UP! I’ll make it a quick one. So on my mobile app for the celiac community, we have a restaurant directory of over 2,600 restaurants (with more added every […]

Read MoreAfter 18 months, 2 development teams, a 15 month pandemic, 6 pounds, and 87 new gray hairs, I am beyond happy to announce that the Gluten Dude app has officially launched. It’s actually been in the app stores for a few months now but […]
Read MoreI’m going to start this rare night-time post with a disclaimer: I’m in a beyond pissy mood. Nothing seems to be going my way lately, and today I hit peak frustration. So my post may be more “colorful” than usual. You’ve been warned. I […]
Read MoreThis is cool. Like really, really cool. Not only do we have a film that gives a realistic look at celiac (coeliac) disease, but it’s done in a creative, artistic way. The name of the film is Glutened and it is described by Hayley […]
Read MoreIn 2007, after a year of constant stomach pain and losing 15 pounds on an already pretty slim fit, I finally listened to Mrs. Dude and went to see a GI. (The lesson as usual? Mrs. Dude is always right and me…not so much.) After speaking […]
Read MoreFirst of all, a belated Happy Celiac Awareness month. I do believe we’ve made progress in the past years of 1) getting our disease out in the open more; and 2) reducing the number of idiotic gluten-free jokes. I had a friend come visit […]
Read MoreInfluencers, influencers Just the word makes me wretch To say that I abhor them Isn’t a stretch What is my problem? Why do they put me in a tizzy? They’re in it for themselves And have zero authenticity There’s no product they won’t push […]
Read MoreIf you are on Twitter, you know there are a number of ads placed within your feed. It’s crazy (and when I say crazy, I mean scary) how tailored the ads are to their audiences. Must be the chip implanted in me when I […]
Read MoreCeliac is such a strange little disease. You can go stretches where you feel totally fine and you find yourself thinking that you’ve got it all figured out. You’re like “Finally!” But then you get hit by god knows what and you become a […]
Read MoreCan you believe it’s been a year with this f***ing pandemic? It’s been long. It’s been tough. It’s been depressing. And it’s been politicized. What a year. But I do believe there is hope on the horizon. And tell me Andy Dufresne, what is […]
Read MoreThis post is about a family’s insistence on not being careful around a celiac family member. It seems I get these types of emails once a month. It is so maddening/depressing that here we are in 2021 and people in our community are still […]
Read MoreIt’s 2021 (or the 14th month of 2020 depending how you look at it) and we still have doctors who have their head up their arse when it comes to celiac disease. How far up you ask? Here’s an email I received the other […]
Read MoreI have gotten A LOT of messages/emails regarding the new Gluten-Free Oreos? I get the excitement, being able to have a taste of your pre-celiac days. I mean…it’s just a cookie…but I do get it. But are they really celiac safe and do I […]
Read MoreThis one hurt. This one felt personal. They warned me. Never develop an emotional relationship with gluten-free brands. But dang…Canyon Bakehouse. Really?! Sure…we’ve had recalls before. Who can forget the Cheerios sh*tstorm, when 1.8 million boxes of gluten-free Cheerios were recalled because of wheat […]
Read MoreSo I used to have a bit of an infatuation with Udi’s. And not in a good way. I wrote about them in 2013 about the god-awful holes in their bread. Their response? “We are aware of the issue and we are fixing it.” […]
Read MoreLet me take you back in time. The year is 2014 and the month is November. A company called 6 Sensor Labs reached out to me about a product they were developing. At the time, it was simply called the Portable Gluten Sensor. I […]
Read MoreAs most of you know by now (because I’ve been talking about it for what seems like ages), I am launching a mobile app for the celiac/GF community. The app has multiple sections: Let’s Eat (restaurants), Let’s Discuss (forum), Let’s Learn (videos), Let’s Connect […]
Read MoreLots to discuss this week. Some uplifting (my mobile app!), some misleading (the FDA and gluten free labeling) and some downright frustrating. And that’s where we’ll kick things off. First…a little background. Little Beet Table opened as a 100% gluten-free restaurant in 2014. I […]
Read MoreJust diagnosed with celiac and struggling with how to cope on your new journey? Eating gluten-free but still feeling like crap? Worried about what the future will bring? We’ve all been there. That’s the main reason I started this blog in 2011. Because I […]
Read MoreWho I am. And who I'm not.
I AM someone who's been gluten-free since 2007 due to a diagnosis of severe celiac disease. I'm someone who can steer you in the right direction when it comes to going gluten-free. And I'm someone who will always give you the naked truth about going gluten free.
I AM NOT someone who embraces this gluten-free craziness. I didn’t find freedom, a better life or any of that other crap when I got diagnosed. With all due respect to Hunter S. Thompson, I found fear and loathing of an unknown world. But if I can share my wisdom, tell my stories and make the transition easier on you, I’ve done my job.
Send me a message
I'm all ears
