One of the many, many frustrating things about celiac disease is that you can get glutened and you can have no friggin’ idea where it came from. It happened to me last month and though I’m almost recovered, I still have no idea how I got hit.
The latest “Dear Gluten Dude” comes from a Mom who is down and out and whose frustration level is reaching a boil. Even though her house is totally gluten free, she got glutened but she doesn’t know how or where. So she is reaching out to us for help.
What are some hidden sources of gluten that she should be looking for?
As always, thanks in advance for your input.
Dear Gluten Dude,
I am at my end point. Not kidding. I am gluten free, my house is gluten free and my daughter just got CD diagnosis.
I got glutened.
Luckily I have friends to step in and help with after school activities. My husband, my friends, we have scoured to house…can’t figure out where it came from. I haven’t been this sick in a long time. It takes me 5-7 weeks to feel “normal”.
I have PTA, room rep, publications, book fair…I CANNOT get sick.
Where do you look when you think you have checked everything? I don’t eat out…I have actually started to prefer not eating b/c it makes things worse. I can’t run to the BR every five minutes and run a meeting. I can’t put my saint of a husband through this.
I am just so frustrated.
So again, I ask the guru, where do I look for the hidden stuff?? I have done all the labels in the house, soap, shampoo, lotion…sorry to come across so down and out, but I just need a punching bag and my trainer won’t let me use his! Lol!
