Gluten Free Halloween Candy

As an adult, celiac disease is hard enough. I can’t even imagine being stuck with this life-long disease as a child. The cupcakes at school. The pizza parties. The freedom of eating whatever you want. Being gluten free is tough now. It must suck as a child.

And of course…there is the child’s staple food…candy! What’s safe? What isn’t? As Halloween approaches, the question becomes even more imperative.

Celiacdisease.about.com has a phenomenal article on the cans and can’ts of Halloween candy…updated just this week.

Here’s the article: Gluten Free Candy, as of October 2011

  1. Halloween can be a challenging time in our house with 2 small kids with celiac. Happy to know there’s plenty of candy that’s safe!

  2. I have had celiac since I was 7 years old, and now I am 15. I remember how hard it was when going to birthday parties, church, even just having lunch with friends… and it still is kind of hard.

Who I am. And who I'm not.

Who I am. And who I'm not.

I AM someone who's been gluten-free since 2007 due to a diagnosis of severe celiac disease. I'm someone who can steer you in the right direction when it comes to going gluten-free. And I'm someone who will always give you the naked truth about going gluten free.

I AM NOT someone who embraces this gluten-free craziness. I didn’t find freedom, a better life or any of that other crap when I got diagnosed. With all due respect to Hunter S. Thompson, I found fear and loathing of an unknown world. But if I can share my wisdom, tell my stories and make the transition easier on you, I’ve done my job.
