As an adult, celiac disease is hard enough. I can’t even imagine being stuck with this life-long disease as a child. The cupcakes at school. The pizza parties. The freedom of eating whatever you want. Being gluten free is tough now. It must suck as a child.
And of course…there is the child’s staple food…candy! What’s safe? What isn’t? As Halloween approaches, the question becomes even more imperative.
Celiacdisease.about.com has a phenomenal article on the cans and can’ts of Halloween candy…updated just this week.
Here’s the article: Gluten Free Candy, as of October 2011
Halloween can be a challenging time in our house with 2 small kids with celiac. Happy to know there’s plenty of candy that’s safe!
You’d be surprised. M&M’s 3 Muskateers, Baby Ruth, Milky Way. My god…even Goobers are safe.
I have had celiac since I was 7 years old, and now I am 15. I remember how hard it was when going to birthday parties, church, even just having lunch with friends… and it still is kind of hard.
