June 6, 2017 | 34 Comments

First things first. If the above picture makes absolutely no sense, stop reading this immediately and go watch History of the World: Part 1. You’re welcome. So for those unaware, I’ve been working on an eBook for a few months now. The hope is […]

Feeling Thankful

June 2, 2017 | 13 Comments

Many studies have shown that being thankful leads to a happier life. And heck…who doesn’t want to be happier?? So I’ve recently started a new habit. Every day, I name three things I’m thankful for. Yes…they should be said out loud. No…they don’t all […]

It’s the May Mailbag

May 18, 2017 | 11 Comments

Forgive me community for I have sinned. It has been 15 days since my last blog post. Definitely my longest stretch between posts. I even got this email yesterday: Gluten Dude. Did you get bored with your blog? Is it discontinued? Nothing recent has […]

102 Reasons to Stop Supporting Udi’s

May 3, 2017 | 99 Comments

Let me just clarify what this is about right away. This is not about who makes the best gluten-free bread. It’s not just about the “horror” of the holes in Udi’s bread. That’s been discussed here and here. Yeah…I know there are much worse […]

Explaining Celiac Disease to Others

April 28, 2017 | 19 Comments

So May 1 kicks off another celiac awareness month. I always get a little torn about this month. Too many in the community use it as a month to promote shitty gluten-free foods, which not only doesn’t help raise awareness, but also is not […]

Ordering Gluten-Free at a Restaurant? Listen Up.

April 18, 2017 | 17 Comments

Back in the day, I worked in the restaurant industry for many years; mostly behind the bar but sometimes waiting tables as well. In all the years I worked, I cannot remember one time where someone had a food allergy and certainly nobody ever […]

I’m a Celiac Idiot

April 12, 2017 | 20 Comments

For the past few years, we’ve gone to our friend’s house to celebrate Passover. It’s always a blast. Lots of food. Lots of wine. And lots of laughter. Just a great tradition. Even though I’m a (non-practicing) Catholic, it is still one of my […]

Papa John’s and Starbucks Go Gluten-Free. Or Do They??

April 6, 2017 | 30 Comments

It ain’t easy being a celiac. And for restaurants, it ain’t easy to feed us. I get that. And I also get that any time we eat out, unless the restaurant is 100% gluten-free, we take a risk. It’s a risk I’m willing to […]

March 27, 2017 | 19 Comments

I’ve been happily married to the one and only Mrs. Dude for 23 years now. We were already 15 years in when I got the dreaded celiac diagnosis. While obviously the diagnosis itself pretty much sucked, at least Mrs. Dude and I were able […]

Who I am. And who I'm not.

Who I am. And who I'm not.

I AM someone who's been gluten-free since 2007 due to a diagnosis of severe celiac disease. I'm someone who can steer you in the right direction when it comes to going gluten-free. And I'm someone who will always give you the naked truth about going gluten free.

I AM NOT someone who embraces this gluten-free craziness. I didn’t find freedom, a better life or any of that other crap when I got diagnosed. With all due respect to Hunter S. Thompson, I found fear and loathing of an unknown world. But if I can share my wisdom, tell my stories and make the transition easier on you, I’ve done my job.
