the gluten dude blog
I started this blog in October of 2011. Why? I had a lot to say about living with celiac disease. And what I was mostly finding online did not align with my feelings and experiences of being gluten-free and dealing with the trials and tribulations of our fun little autoimmune disease. And while it took me a bit of time, I found my voice and an awesome community.
Over 780 blog posts and 36,000 comments later, while I may have slowed down my pace a bit, the journey continues. You can select a category or month below, use the search icon above or just browse around. Either way...enjoy and I hope it helps you in your journey.
As we shovel out from a foot of good-old Northeastern snow (ok…to be fair…I should say “as I watch Mrs. Dude shovel…”), it seems the perfect time to post pictures of my gluten-free vacation from last month. This is the third year in a […]
Read MoreWhile I love being a sounding board for people’s celiac rants, it saddens me that I still receive so many of these. Today’s rant comes from a fellow celiac whose ill father simply doesn’t give any credence to our disease. Now where have we […]
Read MoreGluten-free is everywhere. You know that. I know that. It’s quite the buzzword. Frankly…I’m sick of the word. Oh…I love it in the sense that it keeps us safe. I love seeing it on the back of a package when I’m scrambling for something […]
Read MoreSo much to say…so much to do. So many emails to respond to. So many celiac rants to post. So many great comments that I need to reply to. I want to tell you all about my gluten-free vacation. I want to share how […]
Read MoreWho says we’re not making a difference! It’s so cool not only when we make our voices heard, but when we can generate a complete shift in attitude from one of the largest companies in the world. Here’s a quick recap for those not […]
Read MoreThis is not a call to digital arms. I don’t want everyone swarming Jimmy Kimmel’s Facebook and Twitter pages with angry messages. (But if you still want to hit Fallon’s for his idiotic skit, I’m all for it.) This post is not about him…it’s […]
Read MoreI assure you I don’t ask this question for personal reasons. As a matter of fact, it took me ten minutes to come up with the above title to make sure I used the least offensive terminology as possible. Out of the 20 slang […]
Read MoreDude note: I’m breaking this post into two parts due to sheer laziness. This is a topic that needs some some serious discussion. But since I’m on vacation, I’m only going to scratch the surface today and then will delve deeper next week. Fear […]
Read MoreRepeat after me. It’s Only Food. It’s Only Food. It. Is. Only. Food. I’m not trying to convince you. I’m trying to convince myself. You see…I’m heading on vacation next week. For the past two winters, we’ve gone to a house that came with […]
Read MoreHey folks. Sorry for the five day layoff. The last thing I remember is gnawing on a turkey leg Thanksgiving evening, feeling the tryptophan kick in and the next thing I know…it’s Tuesday. Just a little levity to start a serious topic. Last November […]
Read MoreWhat? You were expecting a post about why I’m thankful I have celiac disease? I’m thankful for a lot of things in my life…having celiac is not one of them. But there has been a silver lining in this disease. It has put me […]
Read MoreThat’s right…it’s time for my first recipe post EVER. We celebrated our first Thanksgiving yesterday. Why yesterday? Long story short: Mrs. Dude is Jewish and I’m Catholic so the tradition has always been we spend Thanksgiving with her family and Christmas with mine. But […]
Read MoreDivorce is ugly. I get it. But I never understood why any parent would ever, and I mean EVER, take it out on his or her own children. When you become a parent, your number one job is to protect that child. Period. Which […]
Read MoreAnother day…another blog post where I need to defend my fellow celiacs from the media whores who keep piling on. Watch the video above (or here). This may be about as bad as I’ve seen. And I didn’t want to do this today. I’m […]
Read MoreI had a dream last night. I was at a gluten-free convention. This one booth had two different rice dishes set up for people to taste. I grabbed a fork and excitedly took a few bites of one of the dishes. Only after I […]
Read MoreI received the following message yesterday. She is in a place that most of us have been at one time or another. Celiac can be a frustrating, isolating, never-ending disease. And when it’s got you by the throat, it can seem like there is […]

Read MoreIt’s official…we’re a punchline. We’re whiny. We’re difficult. We’re privileged. But most of all…we’re a joke. Gluten-free is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Who to blame? Where do I start??? I blame the idiotic marketing companies who have turned gluten-free into a […]

Read MoreWho I am. And who I'm not.
I AM someone who's been gluten-free since 2007 due to a diagnosis of severe celiac disease. I'm someone who can steer you in the right direction when it comes to going gluten-free. And I'm someone who will always give you the naked truth about going gluten free.
I AM NOT someone who embraces this gluten-free craziness. I didn’t find freedom, a better life or any of that other crap when I got diagnosed. With all due respect to Hunter S. Thompson, I found fear and loathing of an unknown world. But if I can share my wisdom, tell my stories and make the transition easier on you, I’ve done my job.
Send me a message
I'm all ears
