the gluten dude blog

I started this blog in October of 2011. Why? I had a lot to say about living with celiac disease. And what I was mostly finding online did not align with my feelings and experiences of being gluten-free and dealing with the trials and tribulations of our fun little autoimmune disease. And while it took me a bit of time, I found my voice and an awesome community.

Over 780 blog posts and 36,000 comments later, while I may have slowed down my pace a bit, the journey continues. You can select a category or month below, use the search icon above or just browse around. Either way...enjoy and I hope it helps you in your journey.

Belle Etoile: A Gluten-Free Paradise

January 3, 2014 | 18 Comments

As we shovel out from a foot of good-old Northeastern snow (ok…to be fair…I should say “as I watch Mrs. Dude shovel…”), it seems the perfect time to post pictures of my gluten-free vacation from last month. This is the third year in a […]

My Wish for 2014: Less Celiac Rants Like This One

December 31, 2013 | 18 Comments

While I love being a sounding board for people’s celiac rants, it saddens me that I still receive so many of these. Today’s rant comes from a fellow celiac whose ill father simply doesn’t give any credence to our disease. Now where have we […]

Are We Hurting Our Own Cause?

December 18, 2013 | 77 Comments

This is not a call to digital arms. I don’t want everyone swarming Jimmy Kimmel’s Facebook and Twitter pages with angry messages. (But if you still want to hit Fallon’s for his idiotic skit, I’m all for it.) This post is not about him…it’s […]

Question for Female Celiacs: How are You in the Boob Department?

December 16, 2013 | 80 Comments

I assure you I don’t ask this question for personal reasons. As a matter of fact, it took me ten minutes to come up with the above title to make sure I used the least offensive terminology as possible. Out of the 20 slang […]

December 11, 2013 | 41 Comments

Dude note: I’m breaking this post into two parts due to sheer laziness. This is a topic that needs some some serious discussion. But since I’m on vacation, I’m only going to scratch the surface today and then will delve deeper next week. Fear […]

Repeat after me. It’s Only Food. It’s Only Food. It. Is. Only. Food. I’m not trying to convince you. I’m trying to convince myself. You see…I’m heading on vacation next week. For the past two winters, we’ve gone to a house that came with […]

Can Undiagnosed Celiac Disease Lead to Suicide?

December 2, 2013 | 55 Comments

Hey folks. Sorry for the five day layoff. The last thing I remember is gnawing on a turkey leg Thanksgiving evening, feeling the tryptophan kick in and the next thing I know…it’s Tuesday. Just a little levity to start a serious topic. Last November […]

To All Those Saying Celiacs Must Go Without on Thanksgiving…I Say "Stuff It"

Who I am. And who I'm not.

Who I am. And who I'm not.

I AM someone who's been gluten-free since 2007 due to a diagnosis of severe celiac disease. I'm someone who can steer you in the right direction when it comes to going gluten-free. And I'm someone who will always give you the naked truth about going gluten free.

I AM NOT someone who embraces this gluten-free craziness. I didn’t find freedom, a better life or any of that other crap when I got diagnosed. With all due respect to Hunter S. Thompson, I found fear and loathing of an unknown world. But if I can share my wisdom, tell my stories and make the transition easier on you, I’ve done my job.
