Let’s say you are the top chef of a restaurant in New York City.
Let’s say you are also the owner.
Let’s say you wanted to make a viral video for social media.
Let’s say you brought in a lame-ass comedian to help you.
Let’s say you came up with the idea that you would beat the sh*t out of someone for asking about gluten-free food in your restaurant.
This would be stupid, right? Stupid cause it’s not funny and stupid cause you are the OWNER of a restaurant and more than 1% of the population must eat gluten-free.
Well that did not prevent Joe Isidori, the chef and owner of Arthur & Sons, from doing this exact thing.
Please watch the video below for the original video and my thoughts:
@glutendude A restaurant owner in NYC thought it would be good business to make a video pretending to beat the crap out of someone who ordered a gluten-free meal. #celiac #nocurenochoice #glutenfree #nycrestaurants ♬ original sound – Gluten Dude
If there is one decent thing that came out of this, it’s this. Ten years ago, this kind of video would have gotten tons of comments saying how funny it is and how gluten-free is such a ridiculous fad. But this time? They got their ass handed to them by a lot of people. They actually took the video down from one of their platforms (though not all of them).
And that folks…is progress.
What a dork. Ironically it’s Italy that makes some of the best gluten free pasta on earth and one of the best researchers for Celiac disease is Italian, and if he’d done this in Italy, he’d have had his *ss handed to him by his fellow Italians because many of them have the issue and take it seriously.
