Gluten Dude
  • Hey folks. Hope you’re enjoying your weekend. A rare Saturday post from the Gluten Dude. I’ll be quick…promise.

So I’ve been blogging here for three years. Made some great friends. Helped some fellow celiacs. Pissed off some B-list celebrities. No complaints.

But it’s time to raise my game. Looking to take it to the next level. Want to get out of my comfort zone. It’s time to BE THE BALL!!

    Too much? I’ll stop.

Here’s where I’m at. Besides the comments, which I know are a huge part of this site, I’ve provided pretty much all of the content. Which means this blog only has one main voice.

Well…I’d like to change that and I’m coming to you for advice.

I’ll still be doing my blog posts on a regular basis. I’ll still be doing what I can to be the best dang advocate I can be. But I want...

  • For those of you who don’t read People, US Weekly, Entertainment Weekly, OK, In Touch, Star or follow any of the zillion websites dedicated to our glorious entertainment industry (seriously…how do they all stay in business??), last week Jennifer Lawrence called gluten-free “the new cool eating disorder.”

Was it a stupid thing to say? Of course.

Do I think she meant it literally? I do not.

As a celiac, do I take offense? Not so much.

But do her words matter? Sadly, they do. This is a woman on top of the world right now. People listen to her.

Yahoo actually ran an article about her quote and they titled it “Jennifer Lawrence Says Gluten-Free Is ‘The New Cool Eating Disorder,’ Might Actually Be Onto Something”.

Look…I’m a big boy. I can handle this crap.

But then I think of the children who have celiac and are getting...

  • See what I did there? I wrote the headline to make it look like celiac disease isn’t real when I’m really talking about how celiac affects the brain. This way, we’ll see if anybody reacts to just reading the headline. I know…you don’t have to say it.

Anyway, celiac disease and gluten-free have been getting some gluten-free lovin’ this past week from the New York Times. It’s always nice to see the media give it the attention it deserves.

They culminated the week with a great article titled “Can Celiac Disease Affect the Brain?

My response to that question…CAN IT EVER!!

I’ve talked about brain fog here. And I talked about how it turns me into a raging idiot here.

So no one has to tell me that it affects more than just the digestive system. Still, it was nice to see it discussed is...

  • My question for you this lovely morning is simple.

Why do companies who have no vested interest in our health keep coming up with products that they think we need and that can possibly harm us?

Do they think we’re that desperate to feel “normal”?

Ok fine. That was two questions and maybe the answer isn’t so simple.

Check out this page about a new gluten-friendly wheat being developed and then come on back.

Tell me what grabs you first. To me…it was the title: ‘Gluten-friendly’ wheat could let celiac sufferers enjoy pasta — and become a big-money innovation.

Let’s break the title down a bit, shall we?

Gluten-friendly wheat: Gluten is thy enemy and there is nothing friendly about it.

Let celiac sufferers enjoy pasta: I enjoy pasta just fine thank you. GLUTEN-FREE PASTA.

Big money innovation: Now THAT speaks volumes.

    I actually think Michael Keaton...
